IF YOU BUILD IT S/HE WILL COME:
BLOG IN THE NAME OF LOVE
by Leah Furman
Remember Blaire Allison? The
27-year-old New Jersey party planner who built a web site because she wanted to
get engaged by the end of 2004?
You know...while she was still young.
Every day, thousands of people would surf over to www.marryblaire.com to see
what Blaire had been up to and whether she was indeed any closer to the coveted
diamond ring. Six months, a million visitors and a handful of appearances on
ABC, CNN, MSNBC and EXTRA! later, Blaire was still no closer to finding a date
for her wedding. She was, however, the proud owner and operator of the most
popular blog ever.
Where is she now? Still updating marryblaire.com. Still single. Still looking
for love...And planning a workshop, aptly titled "Preparing Yourself for Love."
The
blog phenomenon being what it is, Blaire isn't the only one chronicling her
search for love online. Far from it. In fact, Blaire represents a veritable army
of singles writing about their dating lives on the web. Witness:
1. Date Joe
Predating the existence of MarryBlaire.com by more than two years, DateJoe.com
was cooked up as way for Philly-based web designer Joe Meadows, 21, to get a
date. The site features an application for a date, a compatibility test, and a
link to his AIM (if you click on the name, the box pops up with "I love you!"
already written in). This wacky bachelor has even applied for sainthood (Patron
Saint of online dating) and attempted to auction himself off as a date on e-bay.
Unfortunately, the actual blog can be sparse, impersonal and boring. So if you
want to get to know Joe, you're just going to have to apply for a date.
2. Six Years Till Scary Age
This blog is "based on the true dating tales of a 31-year-old British woman in Los Angeles"
and if there's one thing this blog is not it's boring. Afraid of finding herself
single at 37, our heroine finally breaks down and joins the throng of eligibles
crowding the world of online dating. Then, she proceeds to fill us in on every
one of her dates. That's right...every single one. And there are many. Read all
about them at www.sleazyred.com/blogs/iam31. And if you're interested in a date,
you can learn more about our fair lady at www.sleazyred.com. P.S. While Blaire Allison posts photos
of the way she'll look on her wedding day, this blogette has pictures of the way
she'll look while screaming your name as you bring her to unprecedented heights
of ecstacy.
3. The Bachelor Blog
If our man Joe's blog almost had you thinking that boys were made of ladybug
ears and puppy dog tails, get your dose of reality on www.thebachelorblog.com.
With three divorces and a few kids to his name, the Dallas-area charmer who
calls himself Mister Bachelor and referred to his (now former) wife as "The
Witch" has no intention of slowing down just because marriage number three has
gone caput. His search for love, or to quote "adult situations and language,"
continues-god bless his sex-addicted little heart. The number of women in this
guy's rotation will amaze and astound. A guilty pleasure? A sideshow attraction?
A human train wreck? Maybe...But if you've ever needed another reason NOT to
call your ex, here he is.
